THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE IN MIND SO FAR FOR THE CRAWFORD TENT
Lois, Cristie and I have planned to have three tents side by side this year. The first will be for activities and discussion. The second will be food and the third will be for anyone that needs to rest and get out of the sun. If we have electricity we will set up fans.
Lois wrote a new story for the younger crowd that we have turned into another coloring book. The story is about a sheep that has plaid wool so it ought to be fun to color. The book includes a few blank pages so the kids can draw whatever they would like. We will have small boxes of crayons like last year.
We have designed some light weight cabers (ABOUT 3 POUNDS) so the kids can practice tossing them as well as a CRAWFORD cornhole game. These are all free. For that matter, so are the snacks. We are also toying with the idea of having a small popup tent where you can change clothes if you want to change out of competitive gear and into something more comfortable to walk around the exhibits.
We would like to post schedules of people who are competing so that other Crawfords can come cheer you on whether it is dancing, athletics or music. As you know we usually have reference books and posters. Maybe you could let us know ahead of time about any particular areas of research you are interested in or questions that you may have.
We have started republishing the Clan Association Newsletter so if you have not received one lately please let me know so that I can add you to the distribution list. In the past we have discussed history and DNA. I would like to include modern events. For example, Susan Crawford was just placed on the Wisconsin Supreme Court so there will be an article about that in the next newsletter. ( Note, the articles will be about accomplishments not politics.)
Finally, we are working on a continuing cartoon about the adventures of Thor Longus’ faux cousin. Perhaps you have a character idea you would like to add to the adventures.
In any case, I can be contacted at:
NOTE: The Caledonian Club of San Francisco was founded in 1866 and has been hosting the Scottish Games for 159 years. Their mission is to perpetuate “the ancient customs, costumes and games of Scotland, and the encouragement and [the] diffusion of Scottish literature, music and arts.” The annual games held at the Alameda County Fair Grounds in Pleasanton fulfills that objective each year and is a gathering that the Clan Crawford Association has attended for years.

It sure felt great to see so many Crawfords wearing the clan tartan while strolling through the fair. They helped with fleshing out our contingent for the march of the clans.

We encouraged our visitors to consider sharing stories of family traditions and recipes for a project we called Longus Legacies. It occurred to us that our reference books and stories often focus on ancient times, yet we are a living breathing family and such families constantly have new experiences that are fun to share in story form so we are trying to capture those that people are willing to share. We will see how this project goes. Every time I attend the games, I leave feeling good. Good that I met such wonderful people. Good that I reconnected with such wonderful friends. Good that we have such an inspiring heritage that stems from such an interesting culture and satisfied that the story is not over, there is so much more to come for us and for Scotland.
